Connexin Health forms part of Connexin, a technology business based in Hull, East Yorkshire that specialises in building wireless infrastructure and networks that connects cities and places.
Connexin built the UK’s first carrier-grade LoRaWAN network in Hull as well as procuring the UK’s first dedicated Smart City platform for Hull City Council, providing a completely end-to-end IoT solution for the public sector.
An award-winning provider, including IoT Breakthrough Award for Smart City Deployment of the Year in 2018 for their “UK’s Smartest Street” concept in Newcastle. It has recently secured £80 million investment to scale-up operations and now employs nearly 70 members of staff. Connexin is invested in building capability and capacity in the deployment of smart solutions. Connexin recently deployed the cities new smart city digital screens in Hull’s Paragon Interchange, the transport interchange providing rail, bus and coach services located in the city centre providing real-time updates on bus arrival and departure times using smart technology. Connexin Health is a new part to the business aiming to bring the experience of building smart cities and connectivity to the health and adult social care sector.
Co-Founder and CEO, Furqan Alamgir, is a trained doctor and all members of his direct family practicing in health, either as GPs, or hospital consultants. With this pedigree, he understands, only too well, the challenges and pressures in these sectors.
His ambition now is to help build smart care homes, smart hospitals and support and prolong independent living, using smart technology by bringing together the best devices, sensors and detectors to a proven integrated platform.
The aim is to provide real-time data and insight into different operational areas, to give care providers the tools to measure, monitor and drive performance for the benefit of service users and those responsible for service delivery. The platform can be used to link sensors and devices that can trigger alerts and prompts for carers, as well as providing dashboard reporting on the information transmitted to the platform e.g. falls, motion detectors, weight, activity, medication administration etc.
Connexin Health is an end-to-end solution provider aiming to deploy new technologies and data platforms to support smarter solutions to service delivery.
The Connexin Platform can support users to deploy a range of indicators aimed at supporting providers to deliver smart solutions and measure outputs. Connexin Health offer several solutions to support the adult social care sector that consolidates the activity within a building and bridges this with occupancy measures that is combined with assisted-living devices that forms part of the building infrastructure. The platform is the conduit to access all information. This can include, but not limited to:
• Care-assist devices and sensors
• Health monitoring devices
• Occupancy levels
• Air Quality (C02) sensors
• Humidity sensors
• Temperature control
• Legionella checks/monitoring
• Fire door and fire extinguishers
Connexin Health offer a wide-range of care-assisted devices and sensors to support the delivery of care. These devices can be managed through the platform to collate information, which can be very informative for carers in understanding the changing needs of clients and to set alerts and triggers as required. For example, the platform can hold ‘behavioural patterns’ e.g. sleeping patterns, heart rate, blood pressure, pulse oximeter, activity and motion, which send alerts or triggers to the carer of any notable changes that may indicate a decline in individuals health and well-being. Other examples include fall detectors, incontinence sensors and medication dispensing.
We provide a fully integrated suite of scheduling Cloud software and a choice of mobile apps plus a range of flexible reporting capabilities supporting not only monitoring and safety but also reporting on compliance and providing the data for electronic payroll, expenses and billing data with flexible exports all standard.
The cost of the platform can be reduced by deploying the system within care groups, which can include up to 6 establishments (maximum of 500 residents). The annual base cost, which includes the platform, licence fee, hosting fee, gateways (3 per site) and set up fee for a Care Group package is £28,662.60. There is then the cost of the individual sensors and devices that vary in price. These range between £24.15 for a door contact, £25.30 for a motion detector to £125.30 for a fall’s pendant.
For example, to provide a care group (6 homes) with the solution that includes, for each site: x 20 Motion Detectors x 20 Door Contact Sensors x 20 Falls Pendant x 20 Air Quality Sensors x 20 Humidity Sensors x 20 Temperature Sensors
The indicative cost per site would be £10,559.30 (Year 1). Subsequent years (as the sensors are already purchased) would be £4,025 per site (or approximately £11 per day, per site).
